The waste ink pad exists for a reason. If you reset the counter without the pad or installing a waste ink bottle, the pad will eventually become saturated. Ink will leak out of the printer, ruining your desk, carpets, and potentially short-circuiting the printer’s mainboard. I have personally seen printers where the resetter was run three times without maintenance—the ink literally dripped out of the USB port.
