While conducting an international naval exercise off the coast of Hawaii, the U.S. Navy and Allied forces encounter a mysterious fleet of alien spacecraft that has splashed down in the ocean. Trapped within an impenetrable force field, a small group of warships, including the USS John Paul Jones, becomes humanity's last line of defense. Lieutenant Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) must rise to the occasion and coordinate with Japanese naval officer Captain Nagata (Tadanobu Asano) to outmaneuver the invaders.
